Following its debut in May with the premium AI Ultra tier, Google is now bringing Gemini Spark to subscribers of its AI Pro plan in the United States. The company has confirmed that the personal AI agent will soon be available to Pro users in additional countries, marking a significant expansion of its autonomous task management capabilities.

What Is Gemini Spark?

Gemini Spark is Google's most advanced AI agent designed to handle complex, multi-step workflows autonomously. Unlike traditional chatbots that respond to single queries, Spark can take a high-level goal, break it down into subtasks, and execute them by interacting with various Google services and external tools. The agent appears as a dedicated tab in the navigation drawer on the web, and as a separate page in the Gemini app on Android and iOS.

At its core, Spark leverages a suite of connected apps and services: Google Workspace (Gmail, Calendar, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive, Keep, Tasks), Google Search, Personal Intelligence (contextual data from your Google account), a remote web browser and computer with code execution capabilities, chat functionality, and Canvas for visual content generation. Introducing Skills, Schedules, and Tasks

To make autonomous workflows manageable, Google has introduced three new concepts within Spark:

These building blocks allow users to create sophisticated automations without writing code. Spark can run up to 15 tasks concurrently, and usage is governed by the same compute-based limits that apply to other Gemini features.

Workspace Integration Deep Dive

Since its initial launch, Google has significantly expanded Spark's capabilities within Workspace. The agent can now perform a wide range of actions across different apps:

• Check your calendar, RSVP to invitations, and schedule new events.

• Important: To edit shared files, you must review and confirm Spark's planned changes.

• Search for and retrieve notes and lists.

• Search for and retrieve reminders and tasks.
• Add, update, and delete tasks and reminders.
• Important: Spark can perform bulk actions on private tasks without confirmation, so users should review requests carefully.

Privacy and Control

Google has emphasized that Spark operates with user consent and transparency. The agent uses Personal Intelligence, which draws on data from your Google account, but all actions are visibly logged. For edits to shared documents and other sensitive operations, Spark requires explicit confirmation before proceeding. Additionally, users can manage which connected apps Spark can access through their Gemini settings.

Expanding Access and Future Plans

The rollout to AI Pro subscribers follows a limited release with AI Ultra, Google's most expensive tier. AI Pro costs $19.99 per month and includes enhanced compute capacity for features like advanced reasoning and image generation. With Spark now available to Pro users, Google is targeting a broader audience of professionals who need automation in their daily workflows.

The company has also updated the macOS desktop app, allowing users to initiate tasks directly from their phones. This cross-device continuity is expected to improve as Spark becomes more deeply integrated with Android and iOS.
