BCCI to Release New Central Contract for Team India: Changes Expected

BCCI may soon release the new central contract of Team India. Now, who will benefit and who will lose will be known later. But it is expected that many players will be in and out of it.

These changes will be seen because many big names have either left cricket or have retired from one format. These Players May Suffer a Loss of At Least Rs 2 Crore

In the central contract of Team India issued by BCCI, players are divided into 4 grades: Grade A Plus, Grade A, Grade B, and Grade C. In the old central contract, there are 4 players in Grade A Plus. This grade includes those players who are active in Team India in all three formats. But, since apart from Bumrah, Rohit, Virat, and Jadeja included in that grade have retired from T20, it is possible that BCCI may decide to change their grade. If this happens, those three may have to suffer a loss of at least Rs 2 crore.

Siraj May Also Suffer a Loss

Apart from Rohit, Virat, and Jadeja, Mohammad Siraj's grade can also be reduced in the new central contract. He is currently in Grade A. But, it seems unlikely that he will be able to retain this grade in the new contract. BCCI can put him from Grade A to Grade B. Meaning, he too can lose Rs 2 crore if this happens.

How Much Money Does a Player of Each Grade Get?

Grade A Plus players get Rs 7 crore annually from BCCI. Grade A players get Rs 5 crore. Grade B players have a provision of paying Rs 3 crore annually, while Grade C players get Rs 1 crore. Now, if Rohit, Virat, and Jadeja are promoted from Grade A Plus to Grade A, then under the new central contract they will get only Rs 5 crore instead of Rs 7 crore. That means Rs 2 crore less.

Who Is In and Who Is Out of the New Central Contract?

Now the question is who will get lucky in the new central contract and whose light will go off, meaning who will be excluded. The players whom BCCI can think of excluding from the new central contract can include names like Rajat Patidar, KS Bharat, Jitesh Sharma, R. Ashwin, and Avesh Khan. Out of these, Ashwin will be out of the new annual contract due to his retirement. On the other hand, the lack of space for the other players in any format can become the reason for their exclusion. All the players except Ashwin are in Grade C. Meaning the Rs 1 crore they used to get annually till now, if they are out of the new contract, they will not get it.

BCCI can remove these players and bring Shreyas Iyer back to the contract. Iyer's contract was taken away last time due to indiscipline. Apart from Iyer, Varun Chakraborty and Harshit Rana are two such players whose inclusion in the new central contract seems almost certain. If these players come in the new central contract, then how much money they will get will be completely decided by their grading.
