JetBlue Airlines Cancellation Policy: Everything You Need to Know

It's not unheard of for travel bookings to go haywire, so when it comes to flight cancellations, it helps to know what options you have. JetBlue Airlines cancellation policy has been tailored to provide convenience and flexibility to the passengers. But if you have to cancel with them due to a last-min schedule change, a family emergency or simply just a change of heart, knowing JetBlue's cancellation policy will help you avoid any unnecessary fees and complications.

1. JetBlue’s 24-Hour Cancellation Policy

JetBlue has a 24-hour risk-free cancellation window, perfect for travelers who may have booked in a hurry. That means if a passenger books a flight seven days or more in advance of the scheduled departure then they can cancel or change their reservation within 24 hours of making the booking and without incurring a cancellation fee. The full refund is valid for any fare type.

This policy can come in handy if you accidentally book the wrong date or decide within a few minutes that you want to change something about your reservation.

2. Cancellation Rules Based on Fare Type

JetBlue has a few fare options, and cancellation policies depend on the fare class. Here’s a breakdown:

Blue, Blue Plus, Blue Extra, and Mint Fares

For these fare types:

  • JetBlue does not charge cancellation fees if you cancel your flight.

  • The fare value, less any applicable deductions as mentioned above, will be credited as Travel Credit, which is valid for one year from date of issue.

  • You can still keep your travel credit if you cancel prior to departure.

  • JetBlue Mosaic members could have enhanced flexibility, like same-day changes and cancellations, awarded.

Blue Basic Fares

  • These fares are the most restrictive.

  • Although JetBlue does not allow cancellations or changes for a Blue Basic ticket, this policy doesn’t apply if you cancel within a 24-hour window.

  • If you fail to show up for your flight, you’ll lose the entire fare.

3. How to Cancel a JetBlue Flight

Canceling your JetBlue flight is straightforward and can be done in the following ways:

  • Online: Go to JetBlue’s website and log in to your account or use the “Manage Trips” section to cancel your reservation.

  • Mobile App:For rapid booking management and cancellations, use JetBlue’s app.

  • Customer Service: If you want to talk with a representative, you can also call JetBlue’s customer service.

When cancelled, JetBlue will tell you if you qualify for a refund or travel credit.

4. Refunds and Travel Credits

JetBlue usually issues a travel credit instead of a cash refund, other than for refundable tickets or those canceled within 24 hours. These travel credits go into your JetBlue Travel Bank, where you can apply them toward future travel for the next 12 months.

Refundable fares (like some Mint fares or by selected during the booking process) are eligible for a full refund back to the original form of payment in cash.

5. Cancellations Due to JetBlue Schedule Changes

If JetBlue cancels your flight or makes significantly changes to your schedule (typically defined as more than 60 minutes), you’ll get:

  • A full refund,

  • Rebooking for no charge on a later JetBlue flight, or

  • Point travel credit, however you choose.

And it applies regardless of fare class, a part of JetBlue’s mission to make customers happy.

6. Same-Day Cancellations and No-Show Policy

JetBlue: With JetBlue, same-day flight changes come either at a fee or are complimentary depending on fare type and your Mosaic status. For a flight you do not use and do not cancel in advance, you could lose the entire fare value, particularly with Blue Basic tickets.
